TODAY IS THE DAY!
“Therefore do not be anxious for tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own” (Matthew 6:34 NASB)
Today is the day! Because you can’t live in any day other than today, not till it comes. Yesterday is in the tomb of time, tomorrow is in the womb of time, Jesus says to deal with today. How? I have eight suggestions, first, base your beliefs. Be solid in what you believe. You can’t live on a feeling or whim. Know what you know. That base is the Bible. It will never fail or falter. Its precepts, principles and priorities obeyed always profit. Second, face your fears. Fear is a common fact but also a crippling force. Don’t be stalled by fear. When you face Goliath you find he’s not so tough after all. When we’re afraid we procrastinate, when we procrastinate we miss opportunities. Face your fears. And third, chase your challenges. Dreams don’t change into realities until they are pursued with a practical workable plan. “Chase” doesn’t mean to mope along. If today is “the” day then I had better get dressed and be ready for whatever comes along.
Fourth, pace your progress. Launch toward your goals with passion but don’t spend all your fuel on the first lap. Journal your steps and stops. Define what needs to be done to make orderly progress. Rome wasn’t built in a day, nor the first coast to coast highway. Progress needs to be steady. There is the long-term goal but also the short-term. A year is made of weeks, a day, of minutes. Plan your day into bite-size chunks. Fifth is similar, space your spurts. It does take adrenalin to make big accomplishments. When it’s time to shift intro passing gear you need the energy to do so. So space your spurts. And even more important, your spats. Choose your fights carefully. Don’t fuss over the insignificant. The time will come when you have to address problems. I’m not saying avoid them, just space them out. Take a break when needed. Keep your cool.
Sixth, erase your errors. We all make them, but some bronze their fiascos and memorialize them. Paul said, “Forgetting those things which are behind…” Behind has little value in thinking of ahead. Think destiny, not history. The past is past, today is the day. You can make amends for the past but never can you amend it. So get on with living. Get the eraser out and have fun clearing the page. Number seven, embrace your embarrassments. If you can’t laugh at yourself your sense of humor is warped. Embrace it, “Yea, that was me in the picture. Did I ever flub up!” The spectacle then becomes a springboard. You have experience now on what not to do and ammunition that can be aimed against the enemy. The best messages always come from the worst messes. Lastly, eighth, replace your resources. You need daily refueling. The two main spiritual gas stations are prayer and reading the Word. Yesterday’s manna can’t be held over for today’s nourishment. Past revelation loses its vitamins. We need a fresh supply. In the natural it starts with breakfast, likewise in the spiritual. Tank up on Jesus then go take on the day, because today really is the day!
