the righteous are in authority the people rejoice; when the wicked rule the
people groan" (Proverbs 29:2)
Note that line, "the people groan". There must
have been a lot of groaning in the air last Tuesday as the GOP suffered the
loss of both Houses, Nancy Pelosi now holding the gavel as the illustrative
Speaker. Some call it a referendum on Iraq. Understandable; another twenty-some
U.S. soldiers have lost their lives in Baghdad already this month. The suicide
bomb body-count among Iraqis is between thirty and fifty per day. Things have
gotten ugly. But what strategy will come out of the House of Blues? Bush
chanted, "Stay the course"; the Dems retorted, "Redeployment". To where? Iran
has test-fired several missiles this month. Five more Arab nations petitioned
the global nuclear energy czars for fissile development last week. Rumsfield
resigned as Defense Secretary. Yet the president called for full steam ahead.
But remember Congress controls the fuel that makes the steam. The war on terror
may be crippled worse than it already is and if rogue Islamic states end up
with the Bomb or better ways of spreading bio-terror, instead of a presidential
lame duck, we may end up with more of a sitting duck.
It was a House of Blues before the "red states"
went blue this election. It seems no one has a clear-cut policy. One thing is
almost certain, the new House of Blues will call for tax hikes and rescind
previous cuts. Get ready middle-class to pay more in taxes. It will be a blue
day if the current economy starts to go south. And that's another dilemma, what
to do about the border. It will also be a blue day if the "referendum" leads to
a change in policy over Israel. The three center letters of Jerusalem are still
USA. The Church and Israel are the two sticks in Ezekiel 37 that are soon to
become one staff, or the two olive trees in Zechariah 4 that will send
anointing into the whole world. Iran is bent on Israel's destruction. Hezbollah
claims to have run the Israelites out of Lebanon. No doubt the terrorists are
planning their next move as the committee chairmen in Washington play musical
My power wish? The church's victory is not
dependent on who is or is not in power in Washington. America's greatest strength is not found in the factory, armory, treasury or university.
Our strength is in the sanctuary. "If my people...shall humble themselves, and
pray...then will I...heal their land" (2 Chronicles 7:14). When the righteous are
in authority the people rejoice. Unfortunately, as the vote record indicates,
there haven't been too many righteous in authority. Everyone wants to
compromise; few have guts to stand for the promises they made on the campaign
trail. The stem cell initiative passed here in Missouri. Both sides have their
pros and cons but the amendment brings us one step closer to human cloning.
Those having trouble picturing Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House, try to
picture two or three of her. And the stem cell research amendment frees your
tax dollars to pay for harvesting living tissue from aborted babies whether you
like it or not. The research is already being done in the private sector. So
why do we have to pay for it? Oh well, don't be so blue. God is still on the
throne. His kingdom will prevail. They key is that you voted (didn't you?) The
attack ads are over; it's now time to seek the Lord.
