THE GOD-KIND OF FAITH

"...have the faith of God" (Mark 11:22)

Your Bible likely reads, "Have faith in God", but the marginal reading commands us to have "the faith of God". There's a big difference between "in" and "of". It is what Kenneth Hagin called "the God-kind of faith". What faith we do have comes from Him. Jesus is the "Author and finisher of our faith" (Hebrews 12:2), so He is faith's source and faith's force. Paul said "the life which I now live in the flesh, I live by the faith of the Son of God..." (Galatians 2:20). That in mind, the capacity is not in us to believe unless the Lord prompts our believing. The natural man cannot grasp the things of God so He grants us the power to believe. That is part of the meaning of grace. "But to each one is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ" (Ephesians 4:7). Compare that to the verse in Romans, "...according as God has dealt to every man the measure of faith" (Romans 12:3). That appears that grace and faith are flipsides of the same coin. We're given a faith IN which to believe and a faith BY which to believe.

That God has "dealt" this faith means that it came from the divine storehouse. Have you ever been "dealt" a Royal Flush? Probably not, but the faith He has dealt is of the same substance by which God Himself operates. Ravenhill taught that "as far as God can go faith can go". Because faith is the essence of God in our lives. The person who has lost faith has lost God. When people received Christ in the early church they were said to have been "added to the faith" (Acts 6:7). This faith is God's deposit of Himself into the human soul. Some call it the DNA of God. It is the "seed" of the Father (1 John 3:9), sperma in Greek, the implanted "divine nature" that creates a God-kind of life within us (2 Peter 1:4).

When Jesus said, "the works that I do shall you do also, [even] greater works", it was because He expected the God-kind of faith that He gave to produce God-kinds of results. Miracles weren't the exception in apostolic days, they were the norm. Paul said the "fruit of the Spirit is...faith" (Galatians 5:22) then added, "for to one is given by the Spirit...faith" (1 Corinthians 12:9), so faith is the only element defined as both a fruit and a gift of the Holy Spirit. "Faith comes by hearing the word of God" (Romans 10:17). So to increase faith, increase hearing. To increase faith, increase intimacy. That "seed" is already in your heart if you have come to Jesus. And that seed has created within you a "new creature". You are now officially, not superficially, sons and daughters of God (John 1:12). You have the faith of God, and just a mustard seed of that faith can move a mountain. God created the worlds with His faith so why don't you follow the lead and create the world you desire to live in? The God-kind of faith ordered, "Let there be light" and there was light, so why don't you bring a dawning to your own dark seasons? Faith is to be dominant, not dormant. Like any muscle, so with faith, if you don't use it you'll lose it. But once used, also like a muscle, faith will begin to grow, yes, even bulge.
